The Bleeding Class
The world is under attack by a deadly plague and Sugar, a Dominican-American escort from the Bronx might just be the key to saving all of humanity. When Sugar visits the reserved Black doctor, Dr. Wesley Pennington, the two are suddenly forced to team up and move into a hastily built research compound owned by a faceless pharmaceutical giant. Power dynamics shift constantly in this highly theatrical allegorical tale, presciently written before the Covid-19 pandemic. The Bleeding Class challenges us to ask ourselves what we are willing to sacrifice, who we are willing to trust, and if we are willing to love.

Concept
The show's premise involves Sugar (the main character) as the “solution” to a global pandemic. As someone who lived through a global pandemic, I saw how it mimicked the play that was written pre-pandemic. As the time goes on it feels like the world starts crumbling in, one bad thing after another, etc. I wanted each transition to feel different but similar to the last. I then used 2 chords on Logic Pro and would just change the note. For example, I would use Note A and Note B for one transition then Note B and Note C for another, etc. This was the main theme for my sound design but of course we had other fun moments in the show. The script directly calls for a remix of RuPaul’s Supermodel with warped lyrics, I then created the blend to go in the show. We had a lot of voice overs as well and I of course recorded, edited, and programmed them in. The best part of all of this experience was how we only had a day and a half of tech and I with my immense amount of cues and recording did it all in that time frame.
